Legendary Harry J Studio, located at 10 Herb McKenley Drive, Kingston 6, Jamaica is unlike any other recording centre on the island. Famous for records from Bob Marley & The Wailers' albums in the 1970s, before the Tuff Gong Era.
With successful productions like “Catch A Fire” and “Rastaman Vibration,” the studio brags contribution to Jamaica's musical history.
Socially, a landmark lyming spot for the Rolling Stones, The Who, and Grace Jones …just to mention a few.
Founder, producer Harry J secured a deal with Island Records, which led to productions with artists Burning Spear, Ken Boothe, Jonny Nash, Augustus Pablo and Zap Pow albums, with sound engineer Sylvan Morris.
Currently, the studio operates under the management of Tara Johnson (daughter of Harry J). The studio was renovated with the latest audio visual technology and reopened in 2018 and has since been reclaiming its name for quality production.
With multiple audio visual productions (including the 2020 virtual staging of the Uppsala Reggae Jam Festival, the Harry J Live Couch Series & BBC1Extra performances) being done at the studio; Tara's aim to preserve their father’s legacy while they innovate to continuously meet the production demands in the ever-evolving Entertainment Industry is being realized.
